Canada: Heavy Snow Causes Widespread Disruptions in Southern Ontario

Heavy snow hit southern Ontario on Thursday, disrupting schools, transportation and travel across the region. Environment Canada said parts of the Greater Toronto Area could see up to 40 centimeters of snow, prompting school closures, widespread road accidents and highway shutdowns. Police reported hundreds of collisions, while major transit delays and flight cancellations were reported at Toronto Pearson Airport as the storm caused hazardous conditions throughout the day.

UK: Major Rail Disruption After Fire Breaks Out Near Tracks of Peckham Station

Around 15 firefighters tackled a track fire between Queen’s Road Peckham and South Bermondsey on Tuesday night, January 13. While a small section of the track was destroyed, no injuries were reported and the Peckham Station was safely evacuated. The incident caused major disruption to London Overground and Southern services, though normal service has since resumed.

US: Blizzard Slams Northern Iowa, Travel Severely Disrupted

A powerful blizzard swept across northern Iowa on Sunday, December 28, bringing travel to a standstill as major highways were closed due to blowing snow and whiteout conditions. Blizzard warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, December 29, with 2 to 7 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching up to 62 mph. Numerous crashes were reported statewide, and authorities warned of extremely hazardous and icy road conditions as temperatures rapidly dropped.

Spain: Hail and Heavy Rain Hit Malaga’s Axarquía Region on Christmas Eve

On December 24 (Christmas Eve), a storm bringing heavy rain and hail struck the Axarquía region of Málaga province in southern Spain. In several coastal and inland towns, the ground and even the beaches were covered in white, and a waterspout was also sighted offshore near Chilches. Authorities issued an amber warning for heavy rain and activated an emergency flood prevention plan. Traffic was disrupted on the A-7 motorway due to poor visibility and slippery road conditions, with some sections closed. Reports included localized flooding of homes and roads, as well as minor collisions, but no major damage has been confirmed so far.
